  Eganville Escape Room

The Eganville Curling Club is launching the Eganville Escape Room on June 16 which will remain open until early September. We have constructed a room in the club basement as a fundraiser.  We are doing a less intense theme in order to appeal to more people.  The door will not be locked so players can leave if they want.  However, the game room will still be challenging and will involve solving a mystery.  This will require your group to work efficiently as a team as time is limited to one hour. Ideal for teams of 4 to 6 players, the game is best suited to ages 12 and up (under 18 year old must be accompanied by an adult).
Our theme is The Big Game.  It has long been known that back in 1970 a solid gold trophy was won by Eganville curlers. Unfortunately, the team that won the trophy have all passed away but rumour has it that the trophy remains hidden in the club basement after all these years. With a current value of over $25,000, that trophy would go a long way towards covering our piping repairs. But where is the elusive trophy? Does your team have the ability to peel back time, unravel the story of that epic curling season and find the trophy? Only time will tell.

  Sexual Assault: The Roadshow

September 6, 2017, Pembroke Marina, 11am – Official Opening of the unit

You know how art has the power to help us think differently about things?

Sexual Assault: The Roadshow is a pop up, participatory art gallery in a shipping container. The retrofitted, glass fronted container will travel on a flat bed truck to 15 cities/areas in Ontario over a three year period.

At each stop, local anti-violence experts will work with local artists and participants to create, curate and exhibit art that “talks back" to sexual assault.

Recently, there has been unprecedented dialogue and awareness about the crime and sexual violence in general.   Sexual Assault: The Roadshow will serve as work and exhibition space for multiple art forms that will further that dialogue in creative, community based and transformative ways.

Local artists (Wendy Leversuch, Anna McDonald Caitlin McDonald, youth artists Abigail Ladouceur & Halle Ward) will conduct workshops and provide opportunities for visitors in Pembroke and Eganville to get involved.   Art created at other stops will also be on display. The unit will be in Pembroke from Sept. 5th-18th and Eganville from Sept. 18th-29th.  Workshop Schedule can be found on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/wsacrc/.

The Roadshow is funded by the Ontario Arts Council and Sponsored by Vtape.  It is a project by sexual assault activist Jane Doe and artist/activist Lillian Allen.

For further information please call the Women’s Sexual Assault Centre at 613-735-5551.

Gem, Mineral & Jewellery Show and Sale

The Ottawa Lapsmith and Mineral Club (OLMC) presents its 51st annual Gem, Mineral & Jewellery Show and Sale on September 16-17, at the Nepean Sportsplex.  This event features more than 60 dealers with something for everyone:  rough and polished stones, fossils, metorites, one-of-a-kind jewellery, carvings and other stone crafts, books and machinery.  A number of organizations have been invited to provide fascinating information about local geology and mineralogy.  Bring an unusual stone to the show, and people will help to identify it.

Volunteers from the OLMC will be there to demonstrate the art of lapidary and club activities -- making cabochons, faceting stones and stone carving.  Some members will sell their unique jewellery at the "Club Creation Corner".  Children can fish for polished stones at the Fish Pond, and learn how to make "rock critters" and other creations at the Kid's Craft Table.

All of this activity is packed into two days Sept. 16, 10 am - 6 pm and Sept. 17, 10 am - 5 pm, at the Nepean Sportsplex Curling Rink.  The daily entrance fee is $8 at the door, but children 12 years old and younger may enter at no charge.
