  ChangeTheWorld 2017 Youth Volunteer Campaign

The ChangeTheWorld volunteer campaign encourages youth ages 14-18 to make a positive difference in their community by volunteering within a 6 week period from April 23-June 3. Whether volunteering at the local animal shelter, planting trees or even creating their own fundraiser or awareness campaign, youth are taking this time to change the world by making small impacts in their community while gaining community service hours. By volunteering for at least 3 hours, students are being recognized for their efforts by the Ontario Volunteer Center Network with a certificate of appreciation that can boost resumes and post-secondary school applications. The highly anticipated final event for the 10th campaign will take place at the Gibson Center on June 1st from 6-9 where members of the public are welcome to take part in a discrimination and racism awareness campaign to view powerful artwork submitted by youth in Simcoe County. To participate in the campaign or to find out more about the events, contact Melisa at melisa@contactsouthsimcoe.ca or 905-713-4713.

Kevin Lord Memorial Foundation Spring Classic

The 11th Annual Kevin Lord Memorial Foundation Spring Classic golf tournament will be taking place on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Bear Creek Golf Club.  The golf tournament has been held every year since 2007 as a fundraiser in memory of Kevin Lord, a past New Tecumseth resident and aspiring ice hockey and ball hockey player who passed away in 2006 at the young age of 20 after a year-long battle with brain cancer.  Over the past 10 years the Foundation has raised in excess of $100,000.00 which has been donated back in and outside the community to many different organizations, special charities, hospitals and local families in need. "Without the support of friends and family, this would never have been possible and we can't thank everyone enough for continuing to support our family and the Kevin Lord Memorial Foundation in keeping true to our motto, "Giving A Helping Hand In Helping Others", all in memory of Kevin and we are definitely looking forward to another fun and successful tournament again this year in June", said Al Lord, tournament director.
The tournament is open the first 144 registered golfers and is usually sold out. Entry fee is $140.00 per golfer or $560.00 per team, which includes 18 holes of golf, lunch, dinner and a prize. Anyone interested in entering a team this year should plan to register early.  To register or obtain further details, contact Al Lord at al.lord@sympatico.ca or (416) 576-6128.
