  YOUTH JOB CONNECTION WORKSHOPS

Based on our collective goal to support youth in the community, I wanted to inform you that we're hosting a series of Assessment sessions for Employment Ontario's Youth Job Connection (YJC) program. The program serves youth who are unemployed and not enrolled in school (15-29 years old) and includes:

. Free 1-on-1 career counselling
. 60 hours paid pre-employment workshops ($11.40/hour)
. Full-time and part-time jobs available across Bruce County
. Support before, during and after securing a job

  KINCARDINE CUBS MEMORIAL FUNDRAISER / BASEBALL TOURNAMENT

The Kincardine Cubs Senior Baseball team is hosting the 7th Annual Mike McLelland Baseball Classic taking place July 2/2017 at Connaught Park. The event supports the Heart and Stroke foundation as well as the growth of minor baseball in the kincardine community. The event features a full day of baseball including the main attraction Kincardine Cubs facing off against the AA New Lowell Knights at 1pm and AAA Sarnia Braves at 7pm. The beer gardens opens at 1pm including extensive raffle prizes such as jays and raptors tickets. There is a full menu bbq that also offers refreshments - entry to the viewing area is by donation.

Paddle + Party is Rural Response for Healthy Children's 30th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday July 9th

  Through The Garden Gate Tour

Through the Garden Gate is holding a self guided tour on Sunday, July 9th. The tour will showcase eight local gardens running from 12 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $12.00 each at Quinn's, or can be purchased for $15.00 dollars at the Walker House during the day of the tour. 

The event is rain or shine with tea, coffee and cake being served.

  KINCARDINE COASTAL CLEANUP

The Huron Fringe Field Naturalists, the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation and West Shore Clothing & Surf Shoppe are partnering to host a shoreline cleanup of Station Beach, Kincardine. Volunteers are needed to work in teams to collect and categorize trash. A free BBQ will be provided and a stand up paddle board will be raffled.

  LIGHTHOUSE BLUES FESTIVAL 2017

The 8th annual Bruce Telecom Lighthouse Blues Festival takes place from July 14-16 in Kincardine.

The line up this year on the Bruce Telecom Main Stage features top international touring artists Toronzo Cannon (Chicago), Joe Louis Walker (San Francisco) and the Ghost Town Blues Band (Memphis). Top Canadian artists also are on the line up including Cheryl Lescom, The Hogtown Allstars (the band backing Donnie Walsh of Downchild), Suzie Vinnick, Blackburn and the Paul Reddick Band.

The free BIA Saturday Street Festival will feature over 30 artists, many of them local, on four performance stages including Matt Weidinger, Rick Taylor, and Alfie Smith. Adding to the family fun for the afternoon there is the TD Children’s Zone, a zip line and a petting zoo.

The vintage British Sports Car display returns, along with an Artist Row in the Park and an antique bicycle exhibit. Downtown merchants will be featured in a street market.

The popular Sunday Morning Gospel Revival returns to the Victoria Park Gazebo, starting at 10 a.m. and will feature Bobby Dean Blackburn.

  COPA FOR KIDS PORT ELGIN

Copa for Kids is a program where generous pilots donate their time and aircraft expenses to give kids the thrill of flight. Kids between the ages of 8 and 17 are welcome to fly with us, and anyone outside that range can enjoy some barbecue and snacks while watching the airplanes. All flights include a short safety briefing and ground school to teach kids the basics. Pre-registration not required but having the form filled out beforehand can be helpful. This is a last-minute reminder that this extraordinarily talented and focused young woman is making a stop on her busy summer tour to the Sumer Evening Concert Series in Goderich. Avery Raquel takes the stage at Courthouse Park at 7pm on Thursday July 20th.

 

Her band includes some of the very best jazz musicians in Canada: Matt Newton, keys; Tyler Emond, bass; Andrew Marzotto, guitar; and Joel Haynes, drums.

  22ND ANNUAL JEFF PRESTON GOLF TOURNAMENT

The 22nd annual Jeff Preston Celebrity Golf Tournament is back at the Saugeen Golf Club on July 21st. The event, hosted by the Port Elgin Rotary Club, has raised over $1 million dollars for muscular dystrophy research, with particular focus on the Duchenne form of the disease.

Preston is now an Assistant Professor in Disability Studies at King’s University College at Western University, where he teaches classes on Disability in Popular Culture and Disability Policy and Legislation.

Celebrities included in the annual tournament are professional hockey defenceman Kevin Czuzman, former NHLer Kris King, former CFLer Chuck Ealey, former professional goaltender Curtis Sanford, former NHLer Paul MacDermid and former NHLer, Saugeen Shores Winterhawk Theo Peckham.

Registration forms are available at Saugeen Golf Club or online. A silent auction will be open to the public with a live auction taking place following the event.

  FREE OUTDOOR MOVIE NIGHT IN BLYTH

Families are invited to a free outdoor movie night at Blyth Lions Park July 28 as part of the Blyth 140th Anniversary celebrations. 

Come watch The Lego Batman Movie as part of a tobacco-free event which includes activities, games and trivia.  Family activities begin at 6:45 p.m., and the movie begins at dusk. Please bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit on.

Snacks will be available to purchase at the event. A water refill station will also be provided by Healthy Kids Community Challenge Huron, so please bring your water bottles.

This family-oriented event brings attention to the role of media messaging on tobacco use.

 

At the event, youth volunteers will talk about how smoking in movies rated for children can influence tobacco use.

This tobacco-free event will take place rain or shine. The rain location is the Blyth Arena and Community Centre, located at 377 Gypsy Lane, Blyth.

The event is hosted by the Huron County Health Unit, in partnership with Healthy Kids Community Challenge Huron, the Municipality of North Huron and the Blyth 140th Anniversary.
