  Richard: the Canadian Wood Carver Exhibition

on display: January 23 - June 23, 2018 at the Port Dover Harbour Museum

If you lived in or visited Port Dover in the 1970's-80's, you may have purchased a wooden animal carving from Richard Thompkins, known locally as "Richard the Wood Carver."  Featuring dozens of his beautiful, simple but stylized Canadian mammal carvings and a few unique pieces, this exhibit will tell the story of Richard and his menagerie of creatures, many of which are still cherished or collected today.

  The Written Word Exhibit at Haldimand County Museum and Archives.

April 4 – The Written Word exhibit opens
This fascinating exhibit showcases the rich and diverse history of Haldimand County through its
archives. Documents, maps, books and diaries that are part of the archives’ vast collection will be
displayed. Some items included in the exhibit are a diary from 1868, a Gaelic book from 1821, a
number of early land deeds and maps. The exhibit runs from April 4th until June 25th and is open to
the public during regular museum hours. Admission is by donation.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grand Erie (BBBSGE) are proud to host the first annual Mayor’s Invitational Golf Tournament at the beautiful Monthill Golf & Country Club in Caledonia.
This reimagining of the two former BBBSGE tournaments is our way of reducing cost and increasing the experience!

Our golfers will take to this amazing course to play 18 holes in a shotgun start, best ball tournament.  Throughout the course we’ll have various local food, beer, wine & spirit partners ready to offer you a taste of their craft. Add in the unique live and silent auction, plus fun skill testing holes and you’ve got yourself a great day on the course!
When you’re done golfing, you’ll join us back at the old clubhouse for a meal catered by the Argyle St. Grill. This tournament offers someting for
everyone from first time golfers to PGA pro !

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grand Erie exists to support at-risk youth in our community. Youth who need a friend, mentor and/or positive role model in their life.
We currently serve 400 youth across Grand Erie and have another 200 on a waitlist. Events like our Golf Tournament provide critical resources that allow us to expand our program, bring in new youth, and help them unlock their full potential.

  Sketching and Painting on the Lynnwood Grounds
Are you interested in brushing up on your drawing skills or learning a new painting technique? This summer the Norfolk Arts Centre will offer a wide variety of arts programs for youth and adults of all skill levels. Spend your Wednesday evenings sketching and painting on the Lynnwood grounds. Under the instruction of Cristina Zanella, participants will engage in a variety of drawing and painting activities, and learn how to use colour to define space. This class will involve out-of-doors sessions where participants will explore the beautiful Lynnwood grounds to create a rustic sketchbook. Over the course of 6 weeks, participants will work with a variety of media including water colour, acrylic, and charcoal; materials are included. All levels are welcome for this fun and relaxed class! This course will run Wednesdays, June 23 to July, 27 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and is offered at a fee of $20 weekly or $120 for 6 weeks. All summer arts programs are for adults and youth (16+). The information gathered will be used to select multilingual books and other reading formats for the Boomers and Zoomers (those 50 +) in Norfolk County.
