  Canada Day in Otterville

Join us in Otterville for a 3 day Canada 150 Festival!

Friday Opening ceremonies at the Mill followed by a Tricycle Challenge and Wing Ding in the Mill Meadow.

Saturday starts with a Farmers Market at the Mill at 8am then a Bicycle Parade at 9am and the OPP Golden Helmets Precision Ride at 10am, the Parade at 11am, then have lunch at the Food Trucks.

There are activites in the afternoon in the Park for Kids and free swimming all weekend. A Histroy Scavenger Hunt, Otterville's famous Canoe Races, Pine Car Races and a CHicken BBQ, Ball Games and the largest fireworks displayin Otterville's History at Dusk.

Sunday there will be a church service in the Park at the 10am followed by a Summer Picnic and Musical entertainment. Then at 2pm a Rubber Ducky Race at the Mill and finally a 3PM a Launch of the book Experiencing the Great War at Woodlawn.

This all-day event is similar to a Christmas Bird Count and involves identifying and counting local butterflies. Join one of our "winged jewels" experts, and help tabulate the species and numbers of butterflies in Long Point and surrounding area - part of the North America-wide annual count. Port Dover has been celebrating Canada's birthday since confederation. Join the party for a day of family fun.

9:00 am - Soap Box Derby at Main & Chapman Sts.

11:00 am - Boat Parade in the harbour

2:00 pm - hour long Calithumpian Parade along Main St. get there early to get a good spot to see the parade. Early evening music and fireworks at Silver Lake Park.

Between events, visit the Port Dover Harbour Museum for wonderful look at Port Dover's history as an important port in Canada's past. Enjoy a meal in any of the numerous  restaurants offering everything from hot dogs, burgers and  pizza to perch & pickerel, crepes, steaks and mid eastern food as well as gourmet pasteries, cookies and much, much more.

Keep track of the books you read in your Oh, Canada Logbook and earn points toward prizes. Write a book report or draw a picture about what you read and earn extra points. Attend any movie, craft, MakerSpace workshop, Thursday with A Twist, or storytime event and collect bonus points all summer long. Points may be redeemed for prizes at any Branch. Additional details will be available upon registration or online at www.ncpl.ca. Registration for the Summer Reading Program will start Monday July 3rd.
Book reports may be submitted to any NCPL Branch until closing on Saturday August 19, 2017.

  Artist Talk at Norfolk Arts Centre

In conjunction with Women on Paper: Selections from the Permanent Collection, artist Badanna Zack will offer a talk about her work on Thursday, July 6 at 8:00pm at the Norfolk Arts Centre (21 Lynnwood Ave, Simcoe). Zack is well-known as a sculptor whose work encompasses a diverse range of mediums, including papier mache, ceramic and stainless steel. Zack studied architecture at McGill University before pursuing fine arts degrees at Concordia University, Montreal (B.A.) and Rutgers University, New Jersey (M.F.A). Her work is represented in numerous private and public collections including the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Oakville Galleries and the Canada Council Art Bank. Join Mary Gartshore and Peter Carson on this restored NCC property under a full moon. We'll listen for whip-poor-wills and coyotes. Mary and Peter will demonstrate their bat detector, which hooks up to an i-Phone and can identify our different species of bats. Bring a head lamp or flashlight, and mosquito repellent and/or bug jacket.  The property is located on County Road #60, about 300 metres west of the West ¼ Line, #453.   Contact Mary or Peter at 519-586-3985.

Songs for cystic fibrosis is a local music show being held in Delhi Ontario to raise money for cystic fibrosis Canada. The night will include great performances by five local singers, food, drinks, prizes, and guest speakers. The goal of the night is to have a great night with great music and people to raise money for the cause. Tickets are available at Dave's Variety in Delhi as well as at the venue which is being held at the Delhi German Home in Delhi at 7:00pm this Friday July 21st and doors open at 6:00
